Church School
St. Clare’s Church School offers these programs for children (Birth – 6th Grade):
Little Lambs (Birth – Age 2): Our youngest disciples are in the “Family Room” this year, just off the sanctuary. The room is staffed by a professional, with volunteer teachers. This location allows parents to participate when possible in our worship service, while being available to their children if needed. There are headphones available in the Family Room, so that you can listen to the service, if you need to be bodily present with your child.
Beginners (Age 3 – Kindergarten): This lively group of God’s children is enjoying learning and wondering about our Creator’s love through Godly Play. This curriculum is a wonderful source of inspiration for “teachers” and “students” alike! Many of our teachers have received formal training in this curriculum.
1st-2nd Grade: Get ready for the adventure – get ready for Bible Quest! Through activity, discussion and story, our children are encouraged to embrace Bible stories and relate them to their lives. This method enables children to claim God’s love as their own!
3rd-4th Grade: Children in this age group will be studying a curriculum created by our own Fr. James Rhodenhiser called The Story of the Christian People…“This year we will tell the story of the growth of Christian faith among different peoples around the world. We will start with the birthday of the church, Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus’ first followers after his death and resurrection, and sent them on a mission to the whole world!” This proves to be an exciting year, capturing the experience of Christians from the early church and beyond!
5th-6th Grade: What does it mean to be called in one’s life? Through the use of the Episcopal Children’s Curriculum, this is the question that will be examined through Old Testament study (Called by God), New Testament study (Called by Jesus) and study of contemporary times (Called by Faith). This most important topic requires a most important skill for people of all ages – listening for the calls of ages past, and listening in our own lives.
